Telecom Assets: Application Overview
Use the Telecom Assets application to develop an electronic inventory of your telecom items and model the connections between telecom assets. You can also develop other equipment assets, such as building equipment, and track how telecom equipment fits within your larger equipment systems.
Note: The features of the Telecom Assets application are a subset of the features available with the Assets application and Enterprise Assets application. The Telecom Assets application is designed for users upgrading from Archibus Windows Client/Server Telecommunications & Cabling Management who want the predominantly equivalent functionality in the Web Central environment but do not need the additional features available with Assets and Enterprise Assets.

Procedure
- Review these concepts:
- Develop background data about your facility, including background data for equipment systems.
- Develop the telecom-specific background data.
- Develop your telecom inventory with either, or a combination, of these methods:
- Use the Telecom Console to enter your telecom items in the database, or edit items created from CAD.
- Create Equipment
- Create Faceplates
- Create Jacks
- Create Patch Panels
- Create Ports
- Automatically Create Jacks for Faceplates
- Automatically Create Ports for Patch Panels
- Automatically Create Ports for Telecom Area Equipment
- Edit a Telecom Asset
- For information on working with the Telecom Console, see:
- Connect your telecom assets.
- As needed for troubleshooting, moves, and new hires, look up connections using the Telecom Console's trace and highlight features.
- Maintain your telecom connections. As needed, add to the telecom inventory and update your connections.
- If you wish to associate employees with your telecom inventory, use the Equipment Assets Console to make employee assignments.
- Optional: Document your telecom equipment within your larger equipment systems using the Equipment Systems Console.
- Optional: Add warranties, insurance, and service contracts to your equipment items. (This feature is available only for equipment; it is not available for patch panels, faceplates, and jacks).
- Document the software used in your equipment inventory. See Software: Process Overview.
- Maintain your equipment inventory over time as conditions change in the field. Users with the Asset & Equipment Survey mobile app can periodically survey their facility and update the inventory accordingly. For information, see Asset & Equipment Survey Mobile App and Managing an Equipment Survey.
- Review and analyze your equipment data using Equipment reports.
