Manage Telecom Asset Inventory

Use the tasks of the IT Asset Manager process to develop an electronic inventory of your telecom items and to model the connections between telecom assets. For an overview of the benefits of developing a telecom inventory, see

In addition to the telecom-specific tasks, the IT Asset Manager process lists the Asset Registration Console, Asset Lifecycle Console, and Asset Disposal Console so that you can manage the equipment items of your telecom inventory. You can use the Equipment Systems Console to track how telecom equipment fits within your larger equipment systems. These consoles are also available in the Asset Manager process.

Tasks and Console

The IT Manager has access to the following tasks:

Task	Purpose
Asset Registration Console	Add single assets sequentially, or generate records for multiple assets in one operation. The application can auto-number your assets if prefixes are used. Use the Search feature to verify if an asset already exists.
Manage Asset & Equipment Surveys	If your site uses the Asset & Equipment Survey Mobile App to perform field audits using mobile devices, the facility manager needs to manage aspects of the survey using the Manage Asset & Equipment Surveys console. For example, the manager would need to create the survey, and might need to make changes to the survey or assign a different auditor.
Telecom Console	The Telecom console supports inventory data for equipment and connections, in both workplaces and telecom closets. The console records and displays all cable terminations, but does not display network cables. Using this console, you can add equipment and connections, edit inventory, and create reports. You can highlight connected equipment in the floor plan shown in the console.
Asset Lifecycle Console	Use this task to manage assets throughout the entire lifecycle from asset acceptance and use up to disposal. This console facilitates access to asset data targeted to your role. You can access depreciation values, the current activities for an asset, and any transaction changes. This provides a comprehensive view of the asset to facilitate decision making and coordination with stakeholders throughout the enterprise.
Asset Disposal Console	Use this console to evaluate assets for disposal, determine the disposal method, assign assets to a disposal process, and update your inventory.
Manage Equipment and Standards task	Define your equipment standards and enter records for your equipment items.
Manage Asset and Equipment Surveys	If your site uses the Asset & Equipment Survey mobile app to perform field audits using mobile devices, the facility manager can manage aspects of the survey using this view.
View and Edit Software Information	Once you develop an inventory of your data equipment, you may want to document the software installed on each machine, as well as the software that each machine can access through the network.
View Software by Standard	Review your software standards and each equipment item using the standard.

2. Develop background data:
   • background data about your facility

3. Develop your telecom inventory with these methods:
   • Represent Equipment and Telecom Devices in CAD
   • Use the Telecom Console to enter your telecom items in the database, or edit items that you created from CAD. You can also enter equipment with the Manage Equipment and Standards task.

5. Track the connections between your telecom assets.
   • Connect Telecom Assets Using the Floor Plan

6. Look up connections using the Telecom Console's trace and highlight features. This is useful for troubleshooting and managing moves and new hires.

7. Optionally, you may wish to track this information:
   • Document the software used in your telecom inventory. See Software Overview.
   • If you wish to associate employees with your telecom inventory, use the Equipment Assets Console (available from the Reports button of the Asset Lifecycle Console or Asset Disposal Console) to make employee assignments to your equipment items.
   • Document your telecom equipment within your larger equipment systems using the Equipment Systems Console.
   • Periodically perform surveys to compare your electronic inventory with conditions in the field. See Manage Asset and Equipment Survey.
8. Review and analyze your telecom equipment data using Equipment reports.
