Develop IT-Related Background Data

Use the Background Data – IT process to develop the following standards and background data required for your telecom inventory. These specifications determine how a particular asset operates within your network. For example, background data specifies:

• number and type of ports in a patch panel
• number and type of jacks in a faceplate
• whether a jack is for voice or data communication

Develop only those validating tables for the telecom items that you wish to track. For example, if you are not tracking the telecom closet level, do not develop the standards for patch panels and ports.
