Define All Levels of the Hazard Classification System at Once

If you want to define all levels of the hazard classification system at once, you can use the Define Hazard Classifications task.This is an alternative to defining each of the levels using separate tasks: 

• Define Hazard Classification System (to define the top level in the hierarchy),
• Define Hazard Classes (to define the second level of the hierarchy), and
• Define Hazard Categories (To define the third level in the hierarchy).

When you define hazard classification systems, you are able to review data using the grid report for each level in the system:

Selecting Classifications, Classes, and Categories

When the view is first presented, a drill-down selection list displays the currently defined Classification Systems. Expand the list to reveal the classes within the system. Then expand the classes to display the categories defined for that class. You can drill down to expand multiple levels in the list to get a visual representation of the classification system hierarchy.

Editing and Deleting Items

Selecting any item in the list will display the detail information corresponding to that item in an edit form to the right of the tree. So, for example, clicking on a classification system brings up the classification system edit form; clicking on a class, brings up the class edit form; and clicking on a category, brings up the category edit form. At this point you can edit the contents and Save the changes or discard them by clicking on Cancel. You can also delete the selected and all of its subordinate items by clicking on Delete.

Note: Archibus performs a cascading delete. If you delete a classification system or a class, Archibus will automatically delete all associated records. You will not have the ability to "Undo" this delete, so make sure you really want to remove this record and everything below it in the classification system.

Procedure

To define any level of the classification system:

To add a new element to the classification system, first select the parent level of the element you want to add. Then click on Add New and select the element to add.

• Add a new system:
  1. Click on "Add New" and select "System".
• Add a new class:
  1. Select the system.
  2. Click on "Add New" and select "Class".
• Add a new category:
  1. Select the system.
  2. Select a class.
  3. Click on "Add New" and select "Category"

Once the edit form is displayed, fill in the data and save the record.

Hazard Classification System Fields

The table below shows all of the data entry fields with a definition of the information to be entered.

Field	Purpose
Hazard Classification System	(Required Field) The identifier for the classification system. This value must be unique.
Classification System Description	A free-form text description of the classification system. If this system is based on an industry standard system, you should include references to the source and version of the standard.
Hazard Classification Class	(Required Field) The identifier for the class within the classification system. The classification system together with the class must be unique. Having a compound key means that you could have the same class in many different classifications systems. If you look at the systems shipped with the product, you will notice that Flammability is class under both the HMIS and NFPA systems.
Hazard Class Description	A free-form text description of the class.
Hazard Classification Category	(Required Field) The identifier for the category within the class. The classification system together with the class and category must be unique. Having a compound key means that you could have the same category in many different classifications systems. If you look at the systems shipped with the product, you will notice that categories are often a sequence of numbers.
Hazard Category Description	A free-form text description of the category.
