Incidents Map
With the Archibus mapping function, you can view the geographic dispersion of incidents by examining a map on which symbols indicating an incident location are superimposed.
By viewing a map you can quickly discern any geographic commonalities in incident data. For example, the incident map makes it clear if a particular facility or geography is experiencing an unusually high number of incidents. Or, perhaps areas surrounding your sites, such as flooding rivers, are responsible for workplace mishaps.
Once you examine the map, you can optionally generate a list of incidents by location, and then drill down to details on the specific incidents.
Prerequisites
To view incidents on the map, the following are required:
- You must develop data for the geographic hierarchy (Country, Region, State, and City). See Geographic Locations and Map Views.
- You must develop data for your buildings, including the Address 1, City, and State fields. The application requires this information to place the building on the map. You must also associate the buildings with sites. See Developing Locations.
- The locations must have incidents associated with them.
To view an incident map and drill down to location details:
- Select the Management Reports / Incident Map task.
The system displays a hierarchical list of locations in the left pane and a map of the world in the right pane.
- In the left pane, select one or more locations by clicking their check boxes, expanding nodes as necessary to find the locations you want. You drill down from countries to regions, states, cities, sites, and then buildings.
For example, to see all locations with incidents, select the top-level check box, World.
- Click Show Selected.
- At each location with an incident, the system superimposes markers representing the number of incidents that occurred at building in that location.
- Use the key to determine the number of incidents that corresponds with each marker.
- The system zooms into the map as far as it can in order to show all the locations that you have chosen that have incidents. For example, if you chose to see incidents in the US and Canada and incidents have occurred in both these locations, the system will zoom into the map to show both the US and Canada. If only the US had incidents, and these incidents were in California and Hawaii, the system will zoom the map to show this area of the US.
- If necessary, pan and zoom the map.
- If you wish to limit the list of incidents for the selected locations, use the filter option at the top of the form.
- Mouse-over an incident marker on the map to view the Building Code for the location.
- Click on a marker to view summary information about the location and the exact number of incidents in this building. This information is shown in a pop-up window.
- In the pop-up window, click the View Details link to drill down from the map to a floor plan showing the location of the incident.
-
The Incidents Floor Plan form opens. From here, you can select a floor; the system displays its floor plan and highlights the rooms that have incidents.
To view incident details by selected location:
- View an incident map containing incident symbols as described above.
The system displays the map with symbols in the locations in which incidents occurred.
- Select the Selected Locations tab.
- In the list of incidents, click on an incident.
The system displays a list of incidents associated with the selected locations in the right pane. You can export this list to XLS or DOCX if you wish.
The Incident Details window opens displaying detailed information about the selected incident and related work restrictions, witnesses, and training. From here, you can view incident details and generate the OSHA Accident (Form 301) report.
