A Waste Processing Facility Rejects a Waste Shipment
When the transporter delivers the waste, with the accompanying manifest, to the waste processing facility, personnel at the waste processing facility inspect the waste and determine if they can accept it. Because the professing facility is accepting legal responsibility and custody of the waste, it is important that personnel verify that it matches the description on the manifest. Discrepancies may include:
- the waste has not been properly prepared by the waste generator
- quantities and descriptions of waste as documented on the manifest do not match the physical waste
- the time frames for treating the waste have expired.
If the waste processing facility cannot accept the shipment as received, they can partially or fully reject the shipment. In this case, the processing facility can create a new manifest that notes the problems and return the rejected waste with the new waste manifest to the waste generator.
As the waste generator is informed of the problem, they can update the original manifest so that this problem is electronically documented. They may wish to complete the following fields (For information on these fields, see Define Waste Manifest.)
- Manifest Reference Number -- enter the manifest number of the new manifest accompanying the returned waste in the field
Enter a Yes or No value for the following fields:
- Partial Rejection
- Full Rejection
- Type Discrepancy
- Quantity Discrepancy
- Residue Discrepancy
When the waste generator corrects the problems and resends the waste to the processing facility, they can create a new manifest to accompany the corrected waste.
