Creating a Furniture Inventory (Tagged Furniture or Furniture Standards)
You can develop a furniture standards inventory or a tagged furniture inventory, and can make key furniture data viewable over the Web from both Web Central and the Smart Client. This data can include furniture standards, and furniture details, such as the division, department, and employee using the furniture, the furniture location, and the furniture status and use. See Choosing a Furniture Inventory Method.
You can also optionally choose to represent your furniture in CAD floor plan drawings. This enables you to graphically see the locations of your furniture items and enables those servicing these items to know exactly where they are located on the floor. For a discussion of when to develop an alphanumeric-only inventory and when to develop a CAD-based inventory, see Getting Started with the Assets Domain.
Workflow for Creating a Furniture Standards or Tagged Furniture Inventory
When working from any of the applications of the Assets domain -- Asset Portal, Assets, or Enterprise Assets, or Assets module -- you can develop a tagged furniture or standards furniture inventory. For a furniture standards inventory, you must work from the Smart Client. This is described in the following procedure.
- Develop basic information about the types of furniture in your facility by completing the Define Furniture Standards task of the Background Data process. Furniture standards make it easier to track and update your furniture inventory.
- Develop your tagged furniture or furniture standards inventory. There are a few methods:
- Define furniture inventories using Smart Client grid views. Grid views are an efficient way of working when bulk-editing data.
- Define Tagged Furniture by Floor
- Define Tagged Furniture by Department
- Define Furniture Standards by Floor or Room
Note: You develop a furniture standards inventory from the Smart Client using the Define Furniture Standards by Floor / by Room tasks. You cannot develop a furniture standards inventory from Web Central. When developing a tagged furniture inventory, you can work from either Web Central or from the Smart Client.
- Define tagged furniture using a Web-based form. From Web Central, you can add and edit data for your tagged furniture. See View and Edit Tagged Furniture.
- A CAD specialist creates tagged furniture plans and furniture standard inventory plans by graphically depicting your furniture items with asset symbols in floor plan drawings.
- Review and analyze your tagged furniture and furniture standards inventory data. There are a few methods:
Note: When working from the Consoles of the Enterprise Assets or Assets applications or the Assets module, you access reports for tagged furniture from the Reports button on the consoles.
Next Steps for Tagged Inventory
- When working from the Assets or Enterprise Assets applications or the Assets module, you can manage tagged furniture using the Asset Registration Console, Asset Disposal Console, and the Asset Lifecycle Console.
- Once you develop a furniture inventory, you can add cost information and calculate depreciation for it using the Depreciation process. See Depreciation Process Overview.
