Getting Results with Archibus / Asset Portal application
Equipment Process (Asset Portal application)
From production equipment, to boilers and air vents, to computer and networking equipment, to smoke detectors and fire alarms, facilities are filled with all types of equipment without which the day-to-day operation of the facility will be impaired. Having an accurate list of equipment and its location is the foundation of any facility management system upon which maintenance, emergency preparedness, and personnel moves will be based.
To get started with an equipment inventory, you can precisely identify your equipment items by assigning a unique identification number which always references the item, regardless of where the item is located or who uses it.
Once this basic inventory is developed, you can expand it to track equipment warranties and insurance.
Additionally, you may want to periodically survey your facility and note its equipment items. If you have the Archibus Asset & Equipment Survey mobile app, surveyors in the field can use their smart phones or mobile devices to compare the real-world equipment distribution to the electronic inventory. Facilities managers can then update the electronic inventory with the survey results.
Note: You will see that the Equipment process contains a task for the Equipment Assets Console. From this task, you can access additional information on your telecom, office, and facility equipment.
Equipment Plans
CAD plans showing the location of equipment such as boilers, air vents, smoke detectors, and fire alarms as well as computer and networking equipment can be important tools when troubleshooting equipment failures, responding to emergencies, or planning moves. Graphically seeing where the equipment item is located on the floor plan can ensure that the correct item is located, can aid in decision-making, and improve response in emergency situations and equipment failures.
Using the Archibus Smart-Client, you can develop equipment plans in CAD that are linked to the alphanumeric equipment inventory. As with an alphanumeric inventory, you precisely identify your equipment items by assigning each a unique identification number. The database record and depiction in the CAD floor plan are linked so that an edit to the drawing updates the record, and an edit to the record updates the drawing.
Depending on your needs, you may wish to start with an alphanumeric inventory and then link in the CAD component for all or selected equipment, or you can start with CAD right from the beginning.
