credit

Specific building criterion associated with a certification standard to which points are assigned to reflect how well the building meets the specified criteria. For example, under LEED, a building can earn 1 point for the Light Pollution Reduction credit if they meet the criteria for this credit. Some credits offer earning a range of points, depending on how many of the credit's subcredits are met.

Credits can be grouped into categories. For example, LEED has credit categories of Sustainable Sites, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Water Efficiency. Within these categories, LEED has credits such as Stormwater Quality Control, Water-Efficient Landscaping, and Green Cleaning Policy.

Some classification standards require that a building meet prerequisite credits before it can begin to accumulate points for other credits in the category.
