Draw Service Areas

A CAD Specialist needs to add service area asset symbols to CAD drawings.

Service areas are represented on the Room (RM) asset layer and are registered in the Rooms table. The Room Category of SERV indicates that the area is a service area.

Typically, before you add service areas to drawings, others at your site have developed background data about your facility, such as the names of buildings and floors and the types of service areas at your facility.

Procedure

Prerequisite: Develop a floor plan drawing with gross areas. See Draw Gross Areas.

  1. On the Navigator in CAD or in Archibus Smart Client, move to Building Performance using the paths at the top of this topic.
  2. If you are working in Smart Client and CAD is not active, select the Draw Service Areas task. The task presents the Drawing List so that you can choose a drawing to work on. Choose the drawing, and Archibus loads your CAD tool, displays the selected drawing, and makes CAD the active application.
  3. In CAD, open a drawing (if necessary).
  4. Set you snap and grid as necessary. The CAD Navigator includes these commands for your convenience.
  5. Prepare the drawing for working with service areas by choosing Set Rooms on the Navigator.
  6. Depict the floor's service areas by drawing rectangles and polylines. See Drawing Boundaries Accurately.
  7. Assign the polylines intelligence by data editing them. This converts the polylines to asset symbols. For more information on developing Archibus asset symbols, see: Asset Symbols: Overview.
  8. From the Archibus Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD, you can run the Highlight Service Area by Type command to highlight in your drawing the service areas according to type. On the Navigator, this command is located in the Room Inventory process. See Highlight by Owner Commands.
  9. So that the drawings with service area information can be viewed using Archibus Web Central or Smart Client, publish your drawing as an Archibus Enterprise Graphic file by running your CAD tool's Publish Enterprise Graphics command.
  10. A Smart Client or Web Central user will need to run the Update Area Totals task, which calculates building performance areas.
  11. If you like, view your service area drawings in reports by accessing Smart Client or Web Central and running the Highlight Rooms by Category and Type report.

Note: The Building Performance Navigator includes the "Convert Vert. and Service Areas to Rooms" command. For information, see Converting a pre-V18.1 Archibus Space Inventory for Use with the Web Central Space Inventory.
