Sustainability & Risk / Hazardous Materials / Objectives

Use Case: Access SDS Data from the Field

Objective

While in the field, safety managers, facility managers, and general staff members want details about the hazardous products they may encounter in day-to-day work. For example, a move manager preparing to move a lab to new space, a craftsperson working in a room housing products, an office manager showing a new employee their work space all need to know what products they many encounter and take precautions when entering areas housing these products. Similarly, in the event of an emergency safety managers will want to provide chemical inventory information to the emergency response personnel so that they can take appropriate precautions in handling the emergency.

Solution

Empower staff with the ability to access the material inventory and associated SDS information by providing them with Archibus Hazardous Materials mobile app.

You can restrict the locations that each user can access so that based on the logon, the system presents to each user only the locations that are pertinent to their tasks.

Procedure

  1. Use the Archibus Web Central Hazardous Materials application's Define Materials and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) task and Assign Materials to Locations task to develop an electronic inventory of your site's products, the quantities found at each location in your building, and the associated SDS of each product.
  2. Provide staff with the Archibus Hazardous Materials mobile app in Review-only mode. Withe Review-only mode, these users:
    • have access to the product inventory and their corresponding SDS information directly from their smart phones
    • can download the latest data from the Archibus server to their smart phones and then review the product inventory and SDS information as needed for their particular tasks.
    • can work from location lists or pull up floor plans to see where products are located on the floor.
