room category

A classification for a room that describes its major purpose in the facility and specifies whether rooms of this category are occupiable by personnel (the Occupiable? field). Example room categories are Service Area, Vertical Penetration Area, Production, Lab, and Storage. For example, a room whose room category designates it as vertical penetration has an Occupiable? value of No.

Each room category's super-category distinguishes areas of this category as one of the following: 

• service area
• vertical penetration area
• usable area
• other

Room categories can further be classified by room type. For example, a Vertical Penetration category can be further classified by the Room Types of Shaft, Pipe, and Stairs. See also room type.
