owner custodian (Assets domain)
The custodian who is ultimately responsible for an asset.
The owner custodian periodically audits assets to ensure that:
- all required assets are accounted for
- there are no "ghost" assets (the asset exists on paper but is not being used because it is in storage, lost, broken, and so on)
- all managed assets have accurate, complete, and appropriate information
- the assets are being acquired, managed, operated, maintained, and disposed of according to regulatory and/or internal requirements.
The owner custodian can change over time depending on the phase of the asset lifecycle, but only one custodian is the owner custodian on a given date. The chain of custody system historically tracks the owner custodian; it does not historically track other associated custodians.
The system completes the asset's Custodian Type field with OWNER when you assign assets to an owner custodian. Changes in an asset's custodian are stored as asset transactions in the asset_trans table.
