Sustainability & Risk / Waste/ Waste - Background Data
Define Waste Dispositions
With this task, you define the different ways to ultimately dispose of the waste. The options can be categorized into two disposition types: Shipment or Discharge. Subsequent views will limit waste data based on its disposition. For example, when choosing instances of waste to which to add shipment information, the program will limit you to choosing waste whose Disposition Type is Shipment.
You may have waste that you treat on site before discharging it or shipping it. For example, you may need to treat waste on-site before you can safely ship it or before it can be discharged into the air. For cases such as this, you can name the record to indicate that the waste is treated on site, but then choose the Disposition Type that shows its ultimate destination. The sample HQ data includes such a record; its Waste Disposition is On-Site Treatment, but it has a Disposition Type of Shipment. This record represents waste that is treated on-site to make it safe for shipment or to recycle part of it, but is ultimately shipped off site.
Note: The Waste application manages waste that is ultimately shipped or discharged. If a site permanently stores its own waste, it typically needs to be licensed as a storage facility; the Waste application does not target the features required by storage facilities.
You can enter the following information to define waste disposition:
