group area
Groups are used by both the Space domain and the Real Property domain. A group is an existing or proposed continuous section of usable area on a floor that is covered by one lease or used by one department.
There are a few ways that Archibus works with groups:
- Departmental areas in a space inventory -- Within the Space Inventory application, groups represent departmental areas (such as a group of offices assigned to the marketing department) and common areas that are shared by multiple departments (such as a lounge). Space inventory users who do not wish to detail their space inventory to the room level can create groups to show their departmental spaces on floor plans. See Space / Space Inventory / Group Inventory on the Navigator. In this case, the Space Allocation Type field of the Groups table is NONE.
- Space users who are not using the Real Property domain and therefore don't have suites, can use groups to represent floor areas leased to tenants. In this case, you do not associate your groups with leases.
- Leased areas -- The Real Property domain uses groups to outline leased areas on a floor that are occupied by the same department. Users of the Real Estate domain can also use suites to represent these leased floor areas. However, since groups can be associated with departments, and suites cannot be, users who want to track both department and lease assignments for leased floor areas typically represent these areas with groups.
- Allocations -- Space allocations created with the Space & Portfolio Forecast Console are stored in the Groups table. Group records representing allocations have a value for the Portfolio Scenario field, whereas the above two uses of groups leave this field empty.
