tracing
Visually showing the relationship between equipment items on a floor plan drawing. Tracing can show:
- the communication path between telecom items
- how equipment items are part of systems and subsystems
When working with the Telecom Console, tracing outlines the paths that voice and data communication travel to reach their destination points or source points. For example, tracing a workstation’s connection to the server draws a line between the workstation equipment, jacks, patch panels, and telecom closet equipment that the connection uses so that you can graphically see the relationship. Similarly, if you trace beginning with the server, the trace function draws lines between the server and each item it connects to.
With equipment systems, tracing refers to tracking the items which depend on a selected equipment item as well as the items on which the selected equipment item depends.
