Define Jacks by Room
Many users develop jack plans in CAD drawings so that they can graphically see the location of a jack within a room. After you develop a jack plan, you can use this task to review your jack information. You can also edit jack information from this task. However, if you have a jack plan and wish to edit location information, you should do so from the drawing.
If you are not developing a jack plan in CAD, use the Define Jacks by Room tasks to create jack records according to rooms. If you first define your jack records and later decide that you want to represent them in a CAD plan, you can populate the drawing with your existing information. See Draw Jacks for information.
To define jacks in terms of rooms:
- Select the Assets / Asset Portal / Equipment / Define Jacks by Room task.
The grid view presents the Rooms table.
- Click the plus sign in the row for the building and floor that contains the room you want to add a jack to. A new panel shows the room records for that floor.
- Click the plus sign in the row for the room you want to add the jack to. A new panel shows the jacks for that room.
- To enter a new jack record, click in the first row of the grid. Double-click in a cell to enter data for that cell.
- Enter the following required field:
- Jack Code. Enter a unique identifier for the jack. Many sites number jacks after their room location, with a D or V suffix to indicate if they are voice or data jacks, such as HQ-17-101-D, HQ-17-101-V.
- When you enter a Jack Code, the program completes the Building/Floor/Room Codes based on the room you selected.
- Enter the following recommended fields:
- Jack Standard: Enter a jack standard. The jack standard associates the jack with standard data (which can include a drawing block for representing the jack in CAD). This field is validated by the Jack Standards table.
- Save your entries by clicking outside the row for the record you are entering.
Tip: You can also enter jacks using the Equipment Assets Console. See Using the Equipment Assets Console.
