Define Room Standards

Note: This topic focuses on the tasks of the Space Inventory application. However, help topics for other Archibus applications and modules may link to this topic. If you are creating a simple room inventory for use with processes other than those in Space Inventory, you may not wish to complete all of these fields.

Room standards classify rooms in terms of their design and intended use. For example, the sample HQ project uses the following room standards: LAB-A, LAB-B, OFF-10X24, OFF-A, OFF-B, and OFF-EXEC, with each of these records storing the room dimensions and intended capacity.

Since it holds standard area, length, and width data, Room Standards record the defined room dimensions (footprints of spatial configurations) for a facility.

Room standards are independent of room categories and room types. Whereas room categories and room types focus on function and whether or not a room is occupiable by personnel and is part of the floor's usable area, room standards focus on the size of the room and capacity. Room standards can by used by CAD specialists to depict rooms on floor plan drawings by using the Archibus asset inserting routine.

To edit or define a room standard:

1. Select the Define Room Standards task.
2. In the left pane, select an existing room standard to edit or click the Add New button.
3. In the right pane, complete the following information:

   Field	Description
   Room Standard	Enter a value to Identify each room standard.
   Standard Description	Enter a description of the standard.
   Standard Length	The length of rooms of this standard
   Standard Width	The width of rooms of this standard
   Standard Area	The area of rooms of this standard. You can leave this field empty, or complete it with the value of multiplying the Standard Length and Standard Width fields
   Standard Employee Headcount	Enter the number of employees typically assigned to rooms of this standard. The Space / Occupancy application uses this data to determine room capacity and available capacity. You can update a Room record's Employee Capacity field with this value. See Update Room Capacity from Room Standard.
   Highlight Pattern - ACAD	Complete with the pattern by which you want to highlight rooms assigned to this standard in CAD floor plan drawings. For example, you can run the "Highlight Rooms by Standard" query to have the system highlight rooms on a floor plan drawing according to the room standard to which they belong. This field determines the pattern by which rooms assigned to this standard are highlighted. Click on the ellipses button to access the Set Highlight Pattern dialog for defining the pattern. For information, see Defining Highlight Patterns. You can also define highlight patterns by running the Set Room Standard Hatches task, which offers tools for defining multiple highlights at once.
   Cost of Space Cost of Furnishing Cost of Moving	When working with Space Planning, Enterprise Assets, and Portfolio Forecasting, the system uses these fields to determine the cost of implementing a space scenario.    Room Standard Layout Graphic Doc Room Standard Graphic Doc	Use these document field to hold pictures of the room standard.
   Analyze Safe Distance?	Controls if the Space Console's Safe Distancing command analyzes the occupancy of surrounding rooms and paints safe distancing circles on rooms of this standard. For room standards that do not house employees (such as lobbies, lounges, and auditoriums), you can set this value to No. When the Safe Distancing command draws circles, it will ignore these rooms and thereby create a cleaner, uncluttered drawing.

4. Click Save.
