heating balance point

The OAT at which the heating system in a building begins to operate. Each building's heating balance point is determined by any factor associated with the building that has some effect on the heating of the building, such as the building envelope construction, or its temperature set points. For this reason, the balance point temperature can vary from building to building. The heating balance point is used to calculate heating degree days, a measure of the demand for energy to heat the building.

The Energy application can calculate a building's balance points as part of the weather model data it creates when you run the Update Calculations task, or you can manually enter this temperature.
