punch block (for Archibus Client/Server and Asset Portal)

A wall-mounted rack of metal clips that puncture the plastic casing of the ends of twisted pair wires that are "punched down" into the block. Punch blocks, their terminations, and the jumpers or patch cords that connect them form cross-connects.

The Asset Portal application, which is the original asset application and was designed to provide a Web-based portal into asset data that you developed in Archibus Client/Server, has tasks for working with punch blocks. The Telecom Console, used by the Assets, Enterprise Assets and Telecom Assets applications, does not use punch blocks; instead, punch blocks are modeled as patch panels.
