data numbering
Assigning unique key values, composed of incremental numbers or letters, to items in a drawing. Data numbering assigns unique key values to entities you select and registers the values in the appropriate asset table. The layer on which an entity is located determines the asset table in which the item is registered.
For example, if you add four entities to a drawing's Rooms layer, data numbering these items assigns sequential numeric keys according to a pattern you specify and registers the assets in the Rooms asset table. You cannot data number an entity whose asset type is auto-numbered.
Use the Asset/Number command to specify your numbering pattern and to number items.
