GHS classification
The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was developed by the United Nations for providing consistent guidelines that all countries can use in classifying and labeling hazardous materials. Individual countries may have differing definitions of what constitutes a hazardous material, at what temperature a substance is considered flammable, and so forth; likewise, they may use different labeling systems. The GHS resolves these inconsistencies by providing guidelines that can be used by all countries.
For a detailed description of the GHS system and the recommendations for its use, see A Guide to The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
