Archibus Smart Client Extension for Revit

Enabling the Archibus Commands and Adding a Revit Model to the Archibus Database

Before you can use any of the Extension for Revit commands, you must enable the Archibus Model Properties command (shown as the Archibus / Properties command on the Ribbon.)

Note: You must be assigned to an administrative role to run the Model-Level Properties command.

Step 1: Enable the Archibus Commands

To enable the Properties command:

  1. Save your drawing as a file with a name other than the Revit default (for example, save it as MyRevitProject.rvt and not Project1.rvt, as Archibus uses the file name in the database.)
  2. Select a Revit level that contains Revit elements that can be asset symbols (rooms, areas, equipment, etc.). For some entities, any level name will do. For instance, for Rooms, you may pick "Level 1". For some entities that map ambiguously to Archibus assets, this level name must follow the convention in the Archibus BIM Families Table. For instance, levels with area entities must be on a level that contains "Area Plan" in their name (for example, Level 1 - Area Plan.)
  3. Give the drawing focus. The Model-level Properties command ("Properties" on the ribbon menu) is enabled.

Step 2: Add the Revit Model to the Archibus Database

When you run the Archibus / Properties command, the Revit model view is added to the Archibus database. You do not use the Drawing List to add new Revit building model files, but you can view these Revit files from the Drawing List and in the Drawing Name field on the Drawing Properties dialog. If the Smart Client is already running when you add a new Revit model to the database, you can see the drawing in the Drawing List by clicking the Refresh button

Archibus uses the Model and Level Name to name the Revit file, for example, YourRevitModelName-01. Revit models encompass a series of levels which correspond to floors. Floors in the Drawing List are registered to Revit Rvt Files plus their level (for example, hq.rvt|Level 17). AutoCAD typically uses one drawing per floor, or on large drawings, one drawing per quadrant or wing of a floor.

To add the Revit model to the Archibus Project Database:

  1. Invoke the Model-Level Properties command by selecting Archibus / Properties from the Ribbon.

    The Model-Level Properties dialog appears.

  2. Associate your current level with an Archibus Drawings Table record by filling in the default space hierarchy values. Archibus uses this mapping to infer the Building Code and Floor Code of your Revit elements, and to find the enterprise graphics generated from the levels of this Revit model.
  3. Click OK.
