Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD

Creating New Asset Symbols: Equipment Example

There are a few ways to create asset symbols. In this example, you create an equipment asset symbol by adding a block representing an equipment item to a floor plan drawing and then connecting this block to a new Equipment record.

Note that for items such as equipment, furniture, and telecom devices, you use drawing blocks to represent these items on your floor plan.

To create an equipment asset symbol

  1. If needed, activate the Archibus Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD, and open the drawing that will contain the asset symbol.
  2. Choose the Asset Management / Asset Portal / Equipment Inventory / Set Equipment task to make the Equipment prototype (EQ) layer current.
  3. Select the Insert Block task to add a block. It will be placed on the Equipment prototype layer.
  4. On the Ribbon, click the Archibus / Asset / Edit Data command, and select the block.
  5. Enter an Equipment Code and other equipment information and click OK.

When you process the dialog box, the Extension for AutoCAD creates an Equipment record and link this record to the block to create an equipment asset symbol.
