Sustainability & Risk / Green Building / Carbon Footprint - Track

Entering Data for Employee Transportation (Rail)

Use the Employee Transportation (Rail) tab to record the distance employees travel to work using trains that are not owned by the company. You enter this information by vehicle type. The Greenhouse Gas emissions from rail business travel are comprised of transit rail (for example, subway, tram), commuter rail, and intercity rail (for example, Amtrak).

To calculate emissions, the application uses the mobile factors entered for this vehicle type using the protocol identified by the Mobile Emissions Version entered on the Building Footprint Details tab.

To enter data for employee rail transportation:

  1. Select Carbon Footprint - Track / Enter Building Footprint Data.
  2. From the Building Footprints panel, select the building and calculation year for which you are entering consumption data.
  3. Select the Indirect Emissions (Scope 3) tab.
  4. Select the Employee Transportation (Rail) tab.
  5. In the Employee Rail Transportation Footprints panel, click Add New.
  6. In the Employee Rail Transportation Source panel, enter the following required information:

Vehicle Type: Select the type of train for which you want to calculate emissions.

Distance Traveled: Select the annual distance traveled using this type of train for the calculation year.

Distance Traveled (Units): Select the units used to measure the distance.

  7. Click Save.

The application calculates greenhouse gas emissions for this source, and displays the emissions in the upper Footprints panel.
