Define Certification Standards

The first step in getting started with a certification project is to enter the details of the certification standard.

Follow this procedure to enter the basic information of your certification standard.

  1. Review your standard's documentation for background on the standard.
  2. Select Define Certification Standards.
  3. Choose Add New.
  4. In the right pane, complete the following fields:
  5. Certification Standard Enter a value that clearly identifies this standard. You can enter an abbreviated name and then enter the complete name in the Description field. If the standard pertains to a certain year, you may wish to indicate this in your value, such as BREEAM-2008 and BREEAM-2011.
Standard Type Enter the broad category under which this standard falls. For example, if you have BREEAM standards for multiple years, you would enter BREEAM in this field.
    Scoring Type

Depending on the standard you are using, choose one of the following values to determine how the system calculates your points. Consult your standard's documentation for information on the method that your standard uses. For example, LEED uses the Point Total method, whereas BREEAM uses Weighted Category Percent Total method.

    • Point Total -- The system sums the Self-Score field of all credits in the project.
    • Weighted Point Total -- The system obtains the Self-Score total for each credit category, multiplies each category’s Self-Score total by the category’s weighting factor, and sums the weighted totals. For example, the Energy category might be weighted at 19 percent and the Transport category might be weighted at 20 percent.
    • Weighted Category Percent Total -- the number of points in each category is weighted according to a percentage representing perceived importance. For each credit category, the system calculates the percent of the category’s total maximum score that the category’s total self-score represents; multiplies the category’s percent value by its weighed factor, and sums the weighted totals of all categories.
Standard Description Enter a descriptive name for the standard.
  6. Save your changes.
