parent band
In paginated reports, a parent band indicates a table that controls or organizes the child band in the view. For example, if the Buildings table is the parent band and the Floors table is the child band, the view displays the floor records in terms of the buildings they are assigned to; all the floors for building HQ are listed under building HQ, all the floors for building TOWER are listed under building TOWER, and so forth. Views can have multiple parent bands; for example, buildings can be the parent to the child floors table, which in turn is the parent for the child rooms table. Not all views have tables playing the parent role. See also data band, table group.
