Using the Commissioning Console for the Design Phase
The Commissioning Console presents an alternate method to accessing the tasks for the Commissioning/Design process.
The following lists the differences between the tasks:
- Use the Commissioning Console - Plan/Edit Work Packages tab to approve or reject work packages, enter the actual dates completed, attach a document to the work package, change the Work Package Status, and delete work packages. These capabilities are not found on the Manage Design Submissions Requirements task, from which you can add work packages.
- From the Commissioning Console, when using the Gantt chart to estimate schedules (Schedule Actions tab), you work with one project at a time, but you can select a project having any status. From the Updating Commissioning Plan task, you work with Approved projects only, but you can see multiple projects on the timeline.
- The Design process does not include a task to adjust costs, but you can do so from the Commissioning Console's Plan/Estimate Action Costs.
- From the Design process, you can assign team members using the Assign Commissioning Team task. This task is found on the Communicate tab in the Commissioning Console.
You access the Commissioning Console by selecting the Capital Projects / Commissioning / Design / Commissioning Console: Design Phase task, and then using the Plan and Communicate tabs to manage projects.
Commissioning Console - Plan Tasks
The Commissioning Console - Design task includes the following tabs to help you manage your design process for the selected project:
- Project Profile tab
- Review details for the selected project. You cannot edit the project from this tab. To edit project details, from Projects, use the Plan/ Edit Project Requests, task, or from Commissioning, the Design/Update Commissioning Plan task.
- Edit Work Packages tab
- A work package is a group of project actions that vendors can bid on. Use the Edit Work Packages tab to edit existing work packages, to approve or reject work packages, delete work packages or add new work packages.

- Edit Actions
- Add new actions, edit existing actions, and apply a template of actions to the project. When you add or edit actions, you can associate the action with a work package by selecting a value for the action's Work Package field.

- Edit Actions by Work Package tab
- Select a work package to add new actions to it, or edit actions already associated with the work package. You can also apply actions to the work package by selecting from a list of actions for project templates.

- Schedule Actions tab
- If you have entered the Duration - Est. Design (Days) for actions, you can use the Gantt chart to view these actions on a timeline, and to click and drag actions to adjust their schedule.

- Estimate Actions Costs tab
- Adjust design costs for actions associated with the selected project. View the total design costs for the project, including any adjustments you make.

- Documents and Drawings tab
- View a list of actions for the project that have associated drawings or documents. Open the file to review its content.

Commissioning Console - Communicate Tasks
The Communicate tab of the Commissioning console enables you to report progress, including communication logs from your commissioning team meeting and report progress. Consistent, regular Commissioning Team meetings are essential to maintain the progress of the project and the momentum of the commissioning process. The schedule of meetings shall be defined, documented and included in appropriate bid documents during the Design Stage (monthly construction phase Commissioning Team meetings are recommended).
The Commissioning Console - Design task includes the following tabs to help you manage communication for the selected project:
- Assign Team members to a project: After a project has been approved, you set up a project team to execute the project. Members of the project team can be employees or vendors. See Assigning Team Members to a Project.
- Create Communication logs:Create communication logs to record the communications that you have had with the project team concerning a project. See Adding and Viewing Communication Logs.
- View communications: After creating communication logs, you can review reports of these logs according to Communication Type, Action Item ID, and Date of Communication. These reports are available by clicking the following tabs beneath the Communicate tab:
- Logs by Date and Time
- Logs by Action
- Logs by Type
- Create service requests: If have a license for the Service Desk application, the Projects application enables you to create service requests for actions. See Generating and Viewing Service Requests for Actions.
