Location Tools for Hazmat Field Work
When field assessors, inspectors, hazmat managers, and abatement workers go into the field to work with specific areas, they typically have a list of assessment items of specific areas to work with. The assessment items provide basic information, such as a room number, but do not provide details about the facility that these users might require.
If these users need more details about the rooms they are assessing and inspecting, they can use the following tasks to access facility information while in the field.
These tasks are also handy to support decision-making. For example, when prioritizing tasks, a hazard manager may need to know how many employees are housed in a building, the last renovation date, or the number of rooms on each floor.
In addition to the below tasks, inspectors, managers, field assessors, and abatement workers might be supplied with hard-copy floor plan drawings so that they can graphically locate rooms. They might also note sampling areas and hazmat areas directly on the hard copy drawing, so that a CAD specialist can later update the electronic DWG file with these notes.
View Locations
Users can drill down through buildings, to floors, to rooms and access information at each level. Click on the level in the left pane, and details about the building, floor, or room appear in the right pane.
Note two important fields in the filter at the top of the frame.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Project | If you are accessing via the Field Assessor or Abatement Worker process, you must select one or more projects, because you can only view locations in buildings with assessment items assigned to you. The Hazard Manager does not have to select a project and thus can view any location. |
Show Rooms | Controls the list of rooms that you see. Set this option to Only Assigned to see only rooms that have assessment items are assigned to you. To see only rooms that have assessment items in the selected projects, set the option to Project Only. If you need to access a list of all rooms, choose All in Building for this field to access all rooms in those buildings that you have access to. The Show Rooms filter field is only applicable and only displayed for the Field Assessor and Abatement Worker processes. |
Once you complete these fields, choose Show to work with the location list in the bottom frames.
View Locations Drill-Down
This task uses the same filter as the above task. It provides similar information as the above task, except that you use a series of tabs to view the various locations in spreadsheet form, which allows you to see multiple fields of information for many records at a glance.
View Assessment Items by Location
Use this task to obtain a list of past and present assessment items, and sample information, by locations within your facility. This is useful in order to inform yourself or others about the presence and status of hazardous substances in the areas to be assessed or any locations near the areas to be assessed.
First, use the filter at the top of the view to filter the assessment items by various criteria.
Next, use the drill-down pane on the left side to access lists of sites, buildings, floors, and rooms which contain assessment items matching your filter criteria. At each level clicked, the system presents a list of assessment items assigned to this level or lower in the hierarchy, that match the filter criteria.
For example, clicking on a building will display all assessments assigned to the building, to any of the building’s floors, and to any of the building’s rooms, that match the filter criteria. Recall that assessment items can be associated with buildings, floors, or rooms; thus, you may have assessment items at each level.
After you click on a level to display the assessment items, you can click on Hazard Samples tab to view all samples for all assessment items displayed, click on Sample Lab Results tab to view all lab results for all assessment items displayed, and click on Results Summary tab to get a consolidated view of all the lab results displayed. The Results Summary view contains all the lab results for a given sample on a single row, making it very easy to spot at a glance the exact composition of each sample.
For each assessment item, you can use the View button to access its properties and the Samples button to see information about samples collected and sent out for testing.
Click the Lab Results button to view all lab test results for an assessment item (for all its samples), or for an individual sample in the Hazard Samples tab. Click the Results Summary tab at any time to view the consolidated lab results for the filtered list of lab results in the Sample Lab Results tab.
